Dell Inspiron i3847-6934BK PC Overview
The Inspiron 3847 series of desktop PCs is available in a variety of configurations, ranging from 4th generation i3 to i7 series Intel processors, 8 to 16 GB RAM, and 1 to 2 TB hard drive, depending on the model you choose. The i3847-6934BK, which includes an Intel i5 CPU, 12GB RAM, and a 2TB hard drive, is the subject of this review (model number i3847-6934BK).
We also compared this prebuilt desktop to the ASUS M32CD, another popular prebuilt PC in the same price range, and our $500 gaming build (just for good measure).
Pros
- Windows 10 is preinstalled.
- Storage capacity of 2TB
- 12GB RAM
- An 8-in-1 card reader, 8 USB ports, HDMI, and VGA are among the many peripherals available.
- Bluetooth and a built-in wireless card
- Limited hardware warranty of one year
Cons
- Intel Haswell CPU (‘older’)
- There is no specialized graphics card available.
- If you wish to add dedicated graphics, you’ll need to increase your PSU.
Performance
The first thing we wanted to look at was how well this PC’s hardware performed, as is customary. It is a well-rounded product in terms of value for money.
This computer’s CPU, a quad-core Intel i5-4460, provides excellent performance. This is an older process, having been introduced in May 2014, yet according to CPU Bench, it has a respectable benchmark score. The processor runs at 3.2GHz with a turbo boost to 3.4GHz.
When we compared the Dell Inspiron i3847 to the ASUS M32CD, we found that it outperformed the ASUS machine by a little margin. It should be noted, however, that the i5-4460 is a Haswell CPU from the prior generation. The M32CD is built on the current generation Skylake architecture, which we believe is superior in this scenario.
The ASUS M32CD and our $500 Gaming Build are compared to the Dell Inspiron i3847-6934BK CPU. CPU Benchmark is the source.
The Dell Inspiron i3847-6934BK, like other prebuilt general-purpose PCs, lacks a discrete graphics card, instead relying on the processor’s integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600. It should be capable of low-end gaming and seamless video/media playback.
The fact that this Dell Inspiron model comes with 12GB of DDR3 RAM is appealing to us (for reference, the ASUS M32CD only comes with 8GB). This is more than adequate for the ordinary user to handle even heavy multitasking.
The 2TB 7200rpm hard disk also provides a good quantity of storage.
The remainder of the kit is neatly completed with a read/write CD and DVD optical drive, onboard wifi, and bluetooth.
Usage
With its i5 CPU and 12GB of RAM, this computer package comfortably caters to the daily user, and it can manage multitasking with minimum latency or stuttering. Due to the minitower desktop form factor, it’s also a wonderful small size.
This edition of the Dell Inspiron will serve you well if you’re searching for a computer for general usage, such as utilizing office programs, viewing movies, surfing the internet, videochat/skype, and even higher-end software packages like Photoshop and AutoCAD.
Gaming Capabilities
This isn’t exactly a gaming computer, but it should be able to handle less demanding games and even certain steam games right out of the box (though don’t expect it to run smoothly on high settings due to the absence of a dedicated graphics card).
You’d be better off with something like our $500 Gaming PC Build, or even the ASUS M32CD, which can be updated with a video card, if you’re looking for a machine that can handle more demanding games.
The OEM motherboard used in the Dell Inspiron available slots has minimal information, although there is at least one PCIe x16 slot that can take a graphics card if you choose to add one.
When we looked at the benchmark results, here is how the inbuilt graphics stacked up. For comparison, we used our $500 gaming setup and the ASUS M32CD.
The Dell i3847-onboard 6934BK’s graphics are compared against the ASUS M32CD’s onboard graphics and our $500 Gaming Build graphics card choices. Videocard Benchmark is the source of this information.
Screens/Video
The single VGA and single HDMI output ports on this PC allow you to operate a dual screen arrangement.
If you wish to operate more than two monitors, you may be able to do so via a USB/display port adaptor, since the onboard graphics specification claims that the integrated graphics processor can handle up to three.
The Inspiron i3847-6934BK is being upgraded.
The Inspiron was designed to be an expandable PC, so there’s plenty of room for more drives (there’s one spare bay for an extra optical disc drive and another spare bay for a second SATA hard drive or SSD).
If you want to attempt to make your Inspiron i3847 into a gaming PC, you may do so by installing a competent graphics card.
If you wish to increase the graphics on this computer, we’ve been told that the video card may be up to 9.5′′ in size.
If you have a lot of future upgrades planned, you’ll want to look into the motherboard slots. We haven’t been able to gain official information on the motherboard internals, but some sources say there’s just one full-size PCIe x16 connector, so running multiple cards may be problematic.
Dell Inspiron i3874 Desktop Computer Graphics Cards
A dedicated graphics card is a frequent upgrade for this computer, transforming it into a respectable gaming machine.
Just keep in mind that the power supply on this PC is rather modest (300W), thus depending on the graphics card you choose, you may need to update the power supply as well.
The GTX 750 Ti is one of the more powerful cards that may be installed in the i3874 without the requirement for a power supply modification.
Other graphics cards that will fit include (but are not limited to) the following:
-
- The GeForce GT 730 is a high-end graphics card (can use with existing PSU)
-
- GTX 750Ti (the highest powerful card that will work with the current PSU)
-
- GTX 950 is a high-end graphics card (may be able to get away with using the existing PSU, but would recommend upgrading it for optimal performance)
-
- GTX 970 (will need to update the PSU) – this card should just fit within the case at 9.5′′ length, but measure the available area inside the case first to make sure, since it’s fairly near.
AMD Radeon R9 380 graphics card
Other graphics cards will physically fit in the case if they are less than 9.5 inches, but this isn’t an exhaustive list.
The video below demonstrates how to replace a graphics card and power supply in a Dell Inspiron, but you can also consult to the owner’s handbook for more information on the PC’s internals and how to install and remove hardware components.
For the Dell Inspiron i3847, you’ll need a power supply.
You’ll need to update your power supply if you want to upgrade to one of the higher-end graphics cards. A few possibilities are listed below.
The EVGA 500W W1 is an excellent option if you’re going with a GTX950 or GTX960– check it out on Amazon here. You may be able to get away with the more demanding GTX970 with this power supply, but you’d be pushing the limitations of the power supply.
We recommend an even bigger power supply for cards like the nVidia GTX970, GTX980, or GTX980Ti, such as the ThermalTake 650w – see it here on Amazon.

Summary
The Dell Inspiron i3847-6934BK desktop computer is a well-rounded mid-range computer that provides outstanding performance for daily users and may even be a suitable gaming alternative (with a few tweaks if you plan on playing more demanding games). In terms of specifications, it’s quite comparable to the popular ASUS M32CD desktop. While this Inspiron package has more RAM and hard drive storage than the M32CD, its CPU is from a previous generation, so if all other factors were equal, we would choose the M32CD’s Skylake architecture processor.
The absence of a dedicated graphics card is a problem, but only for people who want to conduct intensive gaming or video processing and editing.
With enough room for a graphics card, external storage drive, and optical drive, the PC may simply be updated. If you can get it on sale, this is a terrific price since it comes preinstalled with Windows 10 and is simple to set up.
The “dell inspiron 3847 specs i5” is a laptop that was released by Dell. It has an Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM.
